7 Favourite Historical Romances Tropes

Hello everybody and Happy Friendship Day!

It is August already and you know what month it is?? The Romance Awareness Month! Now I don’t know from where and how it generated but being a historical romance devourer I had to do my bit. So I decided that each week I’ll read at least a book by a new to me HR author. And do HR related Super Seven Sundays. The first week turned out to be very successful as I started Secrets series by Anne Mallory. And for today for the Super Seven Sunday I’m doing my super seven tropes in historical romances!

For beginners, according to Wikipedia, the word trope has also come to be used for describing commonly recurring literary and rhetorical devices, motifs or clichés in creative works. There are so many tropes out there and frankly I love them all (except a few maybe?). But if I had to pick my favourites, they would be these in no specific order:

Marriage of Convenience

I don’t know why but I love this trope the most. As the name obviously suggests, two people get married just for mutual benefit. Then slowly they start to see each other’s better sides, the one they find desirable but being too stubborn and holding on to their vow of being in just marriage of name, they resist each other until the inevitable occurs and they find themselves crazily in love! Unsurprisingly, my favourite historical romance novel falls under this trope!

diw

Devil In Winter

Rakes and Rogues

There’s something really heady about a dangerous man with a wicked wit, who when meets the right woman literally and figuratively falls on his knees for her. It’s funny when all the mamas want to keep their daughters away from the rake with a horrible reputation but secretly wish to get him married to the same daughter.

When He Was Wicked

When He Was Wicked

Non Tonnish

Reading about the ton sometimes gets a bit monotonous so not only is it refreshing when one of the protagonist is from the non tonnish background but also it gives me a high when they break some society rules to be with the one they truly love. It’s important to remember that to have a Happily Ever After is possible for everybody from a Duke to a lowly shop girl.

Any Duchess Will Do

Any Duchess Will Do

Tortured Hero/ Heroine

It’s a no brainer really. Usually one or both hero and the heroine has suffered some kind of tragedy in the past which makes them unable to trust people or open up or fall in love. Therefore, it’s all the more sweeter when they struggle against the self-created barriers getting over their pain and past fears to be completely with the one they love.

The Highwayman

The Highwayman

Wallflowers

Ah! Never forget boys that the overlooked girls are always the gems! Being a wallflower simply means that the lady doesn’t fit into the standard moulded by the rigid society. It’s such fun to read about such woman and how they finally find a man who recognizes their true richness. And that’s why not surprisingly The Wallflower Series by Lisa Kleypas is my favourite!

Secrets-of-a-Summer-Night

The Secrets of a Summer Night

Villainous Heroes

I don’t know about you people and you might think me crazy but this trope is almost a fetish for me. I swear to God I love nothing more than a man- a bad man whose a danger to all but that one woman he’s absolutely in love with. That he would literally kill if his lady love is in danger. In my brain I know that a real man like would be a bit psychotic but in literature he’s the kind of man I would want!

duke-of-sin

Duke of Sin

Lost/ Mistaken/ Hidden Identities

These I believe are the most fun to read! When one of the protagonists is mistaken to be someone else or hides some other entity maybe just for fun or maybe it’s a secret that will rock the ton who knows? But there are bound to be many situational hilarious moments and confusions that I as a reader know about but can’t wait for that other person to find out!

Seven Secrets of Seduction

Well these were my favourites and what are yours? Is there a combination that you love even more?

If you ask me marriage of convenience with a rake makes a deadly combination! So I hope you enjoy the list and I’ll see you very soon. Have a lovely Sunday and happy romancing! 🙂 Love,

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows | Potter Week Day 7

Happy Birthday to J K Rowling and Harry Potter! ❤ ❤

I can’t believe the week is already over. It was fun revisiting all the booksbefore jumping on to the Cursed Child. Although it’s going to be in the play format I’m sure I’ll love it no less than the rest. Before that, let’s see if your favourites from the Deathly Hallows matches mine!

Potter Week Day 7 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Favourite Character – Severus Snape

hp5

That’s a no brainer. I won’t say that I was one of those who loved him since the beginning because well Jo really portrayed him badly enough to make us detest him. But I love him more because of how he was totally completely redeemed. It was a complete U-turn and  I think that’s the beauty of it.

Favourite Scene – The Prince’s Tale

always

This whole chapter not just one scene is my absolute favourite part of this book. The sea of emotions I went through while reading this chapter you won’t believe it.<tears up again>

Favourite Trio Moment

harry-ron-hermione-deathly-hallows

I just cannot pick one. It has to the entire book and all the scenes they had together. Picking one would be a horrible partiallity to all the others and we don’t want that after all. Their meetings in Ron’s room to their adventures all over England to the final duel. It was all mindblowing.

Favourite Object – The Invisibility Cloak

invisibility

The seventh book was all about tying up loose ends in the most impressive manner and I love, love how cleverly Jo explained the abilities of this cloak as a Hallow.

Favourite Spell – Expelliarmus

That’s the spell that ended it al. Seven glorious books full of not just magic but life itself. Atleast that’s how I see it. And I so wish we got to see the duel between Harry and Voldemort at the end of the book with them circling and the first ray of the sun hitting them and then casting of the spells.

Favourite Creature – Dragon

gringotts-dragon-harry-potter.jpg

I was a bit sad that I didn’t pick dragon for the fourth book but I remembered now that I could do so for the Deathlly Hallows too! I do wonder what would have happened had the dragon realised that the trio was sitting on him.

That’s a wrap for the amazing week and I don’t know about you guys but I enjoyed doing this so much that I’ll do something next year as well. Hopefully. Now let’s just wait to grab our copies of the Cursed Child and have a great Sunday all of you! 🙂 Love,

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince | Potter Week Day 6

Hello everyone! I hope all of you are enjoying the weekend. Currently I’m immensely enjoying the rains. Yes. I’m a pluviophile and I wish it would never stop raining and I wish I were always in England. I don’t mean to say that it’s always raining there but they have milder temperatures than in my own country. Those magnificent castles.. I can see so many stories taking place in them. And there I could watch the Cursed Child play as well. But never mind when I can read the book tomorrow! Anyway, back to the topic, it’s the sixth day of the Potter Weekand here I go with my favourites!

Potter Week Day 6 – Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Favourite Character – Albus Dumbledore

dumbledore_quote_2

“He accused me of being Dumbledore’s man through and through.”
“How very rude of him.”
“I told him I was.”
Dumbledore opened his mouth to speak and then closed it again. Fawkes the phoenix let out a low, soft, musical cry. To Harry’s intense embarrassment, he suddenly realized that Dumbledore’s bright blue eyes looked rather watery, and stared hastily at his own knee. When Dumbledore spoke, however, his voice was quite steady.
“I am very touched, Harry.”

Harry says it all for me in those two sentences. My only wish is to know such a man like him in real life as well.

Favourite Scene – Phoenix Lament

phoenix-lament-fawkes-harry-potter

“Somewhere out in the darkness, a phoenix was singing in a way Harry had never heard before; a stricken lament of terrible beauty…Harry felt, as he had felt about the Phoenix song before, that the music was inside him, not without… How long they stood there, listening, he did not know, nor why it seemed to ease their pain a little to listen…They all fell silent. Fawkes’s lament was still echoing over the dark grounds outside.”

When I thought nothing could be worse than Dumbledore falling off the tower I read this and I swear nothing is more heartbreaking than this parrticular moment in this book.

Favourite Trio Moment – We’ll be There

harry-ron-hermione-hugging.jpg

“We’ll be there, Harry,” said Ron
“What?”
“At your Aunt and Uncle’s house,” said Ron, “And then we’ll go with you wherever you’re going.”
“No-” said Harry quickly; he hadn’t counted on this, he had meant them to understand that he was undertaking the most dangerous journey alone.
“You said it once before,” said Hermione quickly, “that there was time to turn back if we wanted to. We’ve had time, haven’t we? We’re with you whatever happens.”

By now you must know my love for emotional drama. So it’s obvious why I would choose this scene over so many others. To stand by your friend’s side even without considering the pros and cons, now that is true friendship. (I know the image doesn’t belong there but it definitely suits the moment.)

Favourite Object – Pensieve

pensieve-harry-potter

For me this would be one of the most convenient thing. I am such a forgetful person it’s a crime really. Although I must say sometimes it’s self induced you know like when you want to forget something horrible you just supress it in the layers of your brain? So yes I would love to keep all my good memories in jars and visit them llater in years to come.

Favourite Spell –Muffliato

Another spell that would be extremely useful because there are numerous eavesdroppers in our lives. Also you won’t have to whisper into your phone just to keep your parents from listening. 😛

Favourite Creature – Pygmy Puff

pygmy-puff-harry-potter

My friends would say I love everything cutesy but that’s not the reason I adore pygmy puffs. It’s because they very much remind me of my pet albino rat I had a few years ago. He was so fat that his body looked very much similar to this pygmy puff in the image which is actually a toy.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix | Potter Week Day 5

It’s Friday already can you believe that? It’s day 5 which means it’s the day for Order of the Phoenix favourites! The book was awesome obviously but how disappointing was the movie? Or am I the only one to think so? Anyway, because the time is less so let’s just jump into it.

Potter Week Day 5 – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Favourite Character – Fred and George Weasley

fred-and-george-weasley

The book was so dark and intense that a relief was needed every now and then and it was provided in the form of Fred and George Weasley. Miss you Fred. I love how J K Rowling can be serious as well as extremely witty in her writing.

Favourite Scene – Dumbledore and Voldemort’s Fight

dumbledore-voldemort-duel

Different than the book but it was the best scene of the movie. And the way Dumbledore combats is just AWESOME! But I truly truly wish they had shown the way it was in the book because that would have been a thousand times better that the movie duel.

Favourite Trio Moment – Emotional Range of a Teaspoon

emotional-range-of-teaspoon

Again some lighter moments were needed in the movie which was even darker than the book so this is fun moment is depicted perfectly in here.

Favourite Object – Extendable Ears

Extendable Ears - Harry Potter

I did want to pick enchanted galleons but it’s more or less same as a group chat so I went for Extendable Ears as there’s nothing better than snooping around and listening to stuff you are supposed to!

Favourite Spell – Legilimens

Imagine being able to go through someone’s mind! Probably somewhat similar to what Edward might feel all the time. But as much as I would enjoy being able to read somebody’s mind I would equally detest it being done to me so it’s probably better to learn occlumency as well!

Favourite Creature – Poltergeist

peeves-poltergeist

Never thought that Peeves, the poltergeist could be in my favourites ever but here he is! And you certainly can’t deny that we all cheered and rooted for his irritating tricks in the fifth book.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire | Potter Week Day 4

Hello Potterheads and other people! Hope you are having a good day. I had a super hectic day at work plus had to do some extra time. I’m literally putting all my effort on typing and not crashing right on my laptop! It’s day 4 which means one of my favourites of the seven!

Potter Week Day 4 – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Favourite Character – Cedric Diggory

cedric-diggory

Oh Cedric! When the movie came out my best friend was absolutely crazy about him and me being a staunch Potter fan had to pretend to not like him all the while harboring a crush on him.

Favourite Scene – The First Task

Hungarian Horntail-Harry Potter

This is strictly for how the sequence was depicted in the movie. It was completely different from the book but equally amazing, although it would have been better if the movie dragon hadn’t ruined the castle.

Favourite Trio Moment

harry-ron-hermione-goblet-of-fire

harry-ron-hermione-goblet-of-fire-2

Both the images are not a part of the movie but I can very well imagine Harry, Hermione and Ron having a laugh even though dark times lie ahead!

Favourite Object – Portkey

Hence proved that I’m the laziest blob of a human in the world. I mean I love driving but travelling makes me grumpy and tired.

Favourite Spell – Priori Incantatem

priori-incantatem

Yes, Harry actually shared some moments with his parents even though they were mere wisps but it was heartbreaking and what made me cry harder? Cedric asking Harry to take his body back. (Here I go again.. 😦 )

Favourite Creature – Sphinx

sphinx

Well..I was going to go for dragons but then I remembered the sphinx in the maze! (If you haven’t a clue what I’m talking about please DO read the book.)
