Reasons to Read Romance Novels

tempt-me-at-twilight

A few years back I came across this pretty book called Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas. By the time I finished reading it, I was head over heels in love with romance novels. Although this genre is very much looked down upon, I never let that stop me from reading it. But reading this amazing post at Romance Novels for the Beach finally prompted me to jot down the reasons why everybody needs romance novels in their lives.

Escape

Yeah! That’s why most people read, regardless of the genre. But why specifically romance you ask? Because it stimulates your entire brain and all the senses as well! You feel the characters’ pain of separation, you feel the agitation while at the receiving end of a betrayal and you also rejoice with them at the end. You sway when they twirl around and you can smell the hot house roses the heroine receives from her suitors. And more specifically (in my case) your mouth waters just by reading about so many yummy delicacies. 😀 Many claim that it doesn’t challenges the brain. But aren’t you trying to escape the challenges of your life? Then why go looking for another challenge in a book?

Hope

We are surrounded with so much negativity and it oppresses me to a large extent. And frankly, I don’t think I’m the only one affected by it. Reading romances elevates my mood and makes me more hopeful about the situations I am facing. It does not necessarily mean that I do not comprehend the difference between the real world and the world of books. It simply means that I chose a romance novel over an ice cream bucket to relieve my worries because I know that at least in the book there will be a happy ending. Reading about the heroine take on some unbelievable tasks gives me the courage to tackle my not so life threatening problems. Also, I know we are never getting a guy like our book boyfriends but it’s the hope after all that keeps the world going on! 😉

Lessons You Learn

Let me break this down in points:

One thing I realised while reading romance novels was the fact that if I want somebody as great as the hunks in the books I need to be that good as well. Instead of expecting the guy to be perfect I need to work on my flaws.

#  Another thing I learned is that no matter what your flaws are and yes let’s face it, we ladies are never at peace with our bodies – too tall, too short, too thin, too fat and the list goes on and on. So as long as you are sure of yourself, imperfections and all, nothing can stop you from achieving what you want!

#  And most importantly, a relationship is not a one person job. Two people work together to keep it going.  Not only you support each other throughout your lifetime, you make up for each other’s imperfections, you grow together.

At the end of the day, who doesn’t want a happily ever after! Have a happy romance reading folks! ❤

  1. WAIT, WHAT? The guys in romance novels don’t really exist? How could you do that to me! I refuse to admit that, and I refuse to admit that every romance novel doesn’t end with a marriage proposal! I just can’t. LOL!!!

  2. I hate to say this, but reading romance novels has resulted into having so much high expectations for my love life. HAHA I know it’s quite unrealistic, but I always wished that I would meet a guy like that from a romance book in real life. Well not the crazy, super alpha and possessive type…But romance books always makes all the heroes so swoon-worthy so you can’t help but wish they existed in real life. xD Great post! 🙂

    1. Thanks Erika! And it’s totally understandable reading romance does lead to high expectations but if you know the right place to look for and if it’s the right time you’ll find the guy! 😉

  3. Great post! There’s nothing wrong with the escape and sense of hope one gets from reading romance novels! The world can be such a depressing place. It’s an amazing feeling to know that I can pick up a book and for the next 3 hours, the world will have a happy ending, everything will work out, and the heroine and hero will end up together living happily ever after.
